"Dayak" is a general term describing the many different indigenous peoples of the island of Borneo. These cultures have many similarites and differences in beliefs, social patterns, and creative arts. By some accounts there are 56(?) distinct groups scattered over the world's third largest island. The northern third is part of Malaysia (states of Sabah and Sarawak) and the independent state of Brunei and the southern 2/3rds (Kalimantan) part of Indonesia. During ten trips to Borneo we have made jungle treks and river trips in Sarawak and Kalimantan staying in longhouses.
We have made many good friends with the art dealing families, especially in Kuching.
